How Should a Person be?

Excerpt…

How should a person be?
How do I exist?
Do I bask in the lime-light or do I hide behind shadows?
She mumbled as she sifted through the skins she’d tailored overtime.
Skins she’d tailored using expectations as her yardstick, I’ve shed my skin way too many times that I can’t tell how I should be; why even should I be?
Exasperated and out of options, she turned to me for help, how should a person be? she whispered, this time in dire need of an answer…

How a person should be is inscribed in the very crevices of their being. That is before the expectations come spiraling in and it’s difficult to separate the white from black, hence the grey that is devoid of clarity. This is because a person at the very least should be true to his(er)self.

A person shouldn’t be afraid to take up space be it little or be it big, a person should occupy said space offering no apologies whatsoever because (s)he doesn’t need to.

A person should understand that prior to what everyone else says, it’s okay to still be learning how to love one’s self. On some days you wouldn’t love every single portion of the being that you are and it’s alright. It’s also alright to want to change things about this person that you’ve come to love, as this in my opinion is the highest form of self-love. Not settling in the name of love but working towards being the very best you can be because you know and believe that you possess the capacity to be all that you want to be for the sake of love.

A person should know nothing of suppressions least you explode in a way that only confetti ought to. Honey if it hurts you, say it and if it excites you, share it. If it doesn’t serve you, disperse as you owe not a single soul an explanation except in cases where another party is actively involved; then and only then should you offer an explanation.

A person should never tolerate her life, else you become just another misery. Life is very fickle and time very fleeting, so the next time someone attempts to sell you a dream that’s not yours or a narrative that doesn’t resonate with you, remember that there’s no time to check time. Be you and do you; you’re the only one who truly knows who ‘’you’’ are. It’s also alright to still be figuring out exactly who “you” are. I promise you it’s never too late or too early.

A person should aim to live and not just survive. Life is not merely a continued struggle for survival, you should at the very least pause and breathe, drink water and admire the scenery for it won’t last forever. Allow yourself to be human out loud, make your mistakes and learn from them, perfection be damned. It’s called life for a reason, live it.

Finally dear friend, there’s no blueprint for how a person should be. A person should simply be.

Have you struggled with identity crisis of any sort? Do you have happen to have advice for anyone going through such? Or is there simply something you’ll like to say? The comment section is open, do well to share your thoughts with me, I’ll be waiting.

Remember that in vulnerability lies great strength,

Because it’s the basic truth everyone needs to understand.

  2. The best thing to do is to choose yourself each day. Work for you and take rests when needed and on the days when love doesn’t come easily, just be grateful for the body that houses you

  3. Dont ask yourself who am I, act and observe yourself in each and every situation and you’ll know who you are. I agree with the saying a person should simply be, exactly just be, don’t try, just do it. Loose yourself in yourself
