OCEANA

At your mercy do I leave this survivor,

She’s calm, quiet, beautiful even

listen carefully you’ll hear her melody
The little sloshes that bring about tranquillity
Her transparency connotes her innocence
She’s fed millions and more; a gift that keeps giving
But these humans, ungrateful beings she says
All I ever did was love them she sobs
Always taking, never giving
Bent to do their biddings yet they remained insatiable
They corrupt her streams and harvest the life she harbours
The once peaceful sloshes now turn into battle cries
A time will come when she would grow angry
Hot fiery anger as she drowns them, life after life she’ll claim
Revenge for the life they took, for the corruption they made her suffer
Stay away from the banks or you’ll drown in debt
She’ll invade your privacy and fill up your organs
She’ll swallow your screams and leave you gasping for air
That’s right she’ll whisper,
Tell them who the real master is.

EXPLANATION FOR THE POEM ABOVE

This poem captures the liquid beauty as well as the warrior that water has proven to be. Statistics has shown that about 10 people die from unintentional drowning daily, the rate of water pollution as well as mass death of fishes has since increased. Water is one of God’s beautiful gifts to mankind but what do we give in exchange for such beauty? of course we go ahead and pollute her while showing the least bit of gratitude. This can also be applied to our daily lives, I’ve always wondered and I’m still yet to figure out if taking good people for granted is simply human nature or some twisted game that the human race can’t get enough of. Consciously or unconsciously, a good number of individuals are guilty of this; taking kind and understanding people for granted, pushing them until they’ve had enough and then when they turn on us, we’re quick to point fingers and accuse them of doing us dirty forgetting that for every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction.

Remember,
There’s strength in vulnerability
Have an amazing day.

  1. OMG I totally have a different mentality of water I really just thought it was some sort of liquid we drink I never knew she also has a heart and we break it every day not thanking her we use her everytime thinking of us but never of her wow Tovia you are a great writer
